Middelburg District Hospital

The new Middelburg Hospital will replace the current district hospital which is in a dire state, and no longer able to adequately serve its growing local population.

The hospital will consist of a fully equipped Out Patient Department, extensive Labour, and Trauma Units. 220 Ward Beds, 4 modern Theatres with full support facilities. The Hospital will serve as an academic institution to facilitate medical students in the region. For this reason, the Hospital will include onsite accommodation for Doctors, Nurses, and Students.

The Training centre will consist of Lecture Rooms and a 400seater Auditorium. The Site will also Include a Creche and a public Cafe. The project has been designed to be a Fully IUSS compliant, Level 1 District Hospital. Provisions have been made for future expansion of the Hospital up to 350 Ward beds and an additional two theatres.


Mpumalanga International Fresh Produce Market

The Mpumalanga International Fresh Produce Market (MIFPM), established by the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency is a significant project that will enhance food security, create jobs and improve nutritional standards for underprivileged communities.

The market aims to link small scale black farmers with local, regional and international buyers, thereby driving economic growth at both provincial and national levels.

The MIFPM features Open trading halls for fruits and vegetables, A meat, fish and flower market, Cold storage, ripening facilities and pallet handling, Processing and export facilities, Bulk breaking facilities for retail outlets, Links with statutory organisations like Customs and EuroGap, Logistics enterprises and shared collation and packhouse facilities for SMMEs, Commercial services like banks and restaurant and a food bank for NGOs.

Additionally, the MIFPM will comply with international best practices in food safety, traceability and infrastructure.

Work on Limpopo’s new R4-billion academic hospital begins in earnest

Plans are afoot to deliver Limpopo’s first academic hospital that will see the province’s residents no longer having to travel to Gauteng to receive tertiary medical services.

Acting premier, Seaparo Sekoati, led the sod-turning ceremony of the Limpopo Central Academic Hospital on Webster Street in Polokwane this week.

“This is going to be a 488-bed hospital providing over 20 services. Those services, amongst others, include all disciplines of surgery, trauma, burns, oncology, gynaecology, neonatal care, paediatrics and emergency medicine.

“This state-of-the-art facility will be essential in ensuring that our citizens have access to quality healthcare services. We have been making pronouncements on this great project over the years. Today it is pleasing that the ground has been cleared and work is beginning in earnest,” said Sekoati.

Joining the ceremony was Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla, provincial health MEC Phophi Ramathoba and Polokwane mayor John Mpe, amongst many distinguished guests. Sekoati thanked Phaahla for the technical support received from his ministry and also praised the Polokwane local municipality for making the 25 hectares of land available.
